Review of King George’s - Accident & Emergency
22nd February 2024

Waiting time was too long to be seen by a doctor, when I was seen the doctor was rude, then got a call asking me where I was saying the surgeons were looking for me when I was in the department waiting, done CT scan at 6:30 pm and the report came at 2 am because someone didn't examine the images nor sent it to Australia. Some nurses especially the night ones were friendly and helpful but others were rude.

Suggested improvements
Better costumer service and emergencies to be dealt timely

The nurses and doctors were compassionate and professional. Initially, I was seen promptly, but I had to wait for hours to receive my results and be discharged. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and advised to see my doctor for medication. My blood pressure escalated to stage 2, so I had to schedule an emergency appointment with my GP

Suggested improvements
Reduce waiting times and regularly monitor patients based on the severity of their condition."

It was my very first time here as I'm not registered with any GP but they treated me well.

Suggested improvements
I need to be registered with any GP so proper consultancy could be available for me.

Thursday 15/2/24 I was taking part in a wellbeing/ mindfulness walk near Stratford E15, along canal towards 3 Mills when I felt ill and suffered syncope. My friends called ambulance, my bp, heart etc checked and seemed ok , I went home. My gp informed. Next day at 8.24 my excellent gp phoned to say I must go to A&E for further checks and possibly scan because she suspected causes that should be verified. She sent me a txt stating her convo and told me to show triage nurse. I did and was treated with urgency, further checks done by wonderful staff , blood tests taken. I waited and called in to doctor. He asked me what happened, I began to explain when senior nurse burst in, told Doctor he had a lot of patients and she would take over and do bp, bloods etc. I explained these had already been done efficiently and asked who she is. She said “I’m the senior specialist nurse for OLD people “…. Emphasis on “old”. I felt upset, since I was about to explain to the doctor what I’d experienced the day before. However he didn’t intervene and I was led down long corridors, to a large empty room where only one elderly patient. I showed this woman my gp’s text, requesting further tests to establish exactly why I collapsed previous day… the nurse was very rude and scoffed at my kind and thorough GP’s text message saying: “ what does she know about it! “ Eventually I saw a doctor for the elderly who didn’t really listen but just did more bp tests and told me to go. I have received a letter today which gives inaccurate description of the consultation.

Suggested improvements
The specialist nurse for old people, as she called herself should not have interrupted the first class A&E doctor when he consulted me. Perhaps he should have been more assertive with her and let me finish the consultation/ assessment.

Everyone was loving and caring and very helpful. I would like to spotlight a nurse name of Oana. She showed amazing empathy and care along with support to my father when he was in her care. She was amazing and very professional. She was running around making sure not only my father but other patients were looked after well.

I was unexpectedly diagnosed with colon cancer for which I had no symptoms after returning a bowel screening kit in January 2024. From the moment the abnormality was detected through to surgery I was treated with kindness, empathy, compassion and most importantly at pace. I really felt that I mattered. I know my treatment was a huge effort involving many health professionals and teams, including nurses, diagnostics, surgical and ITU teams. However, I feel such gratitude that I was put under the care of Mr Aman Bhargava my surgeon and his team. He gave me and my family hope when I was at my lowest and fearful for the future. I am grateful for his surgical knowledge and expertise. His compassion and communication skills are exceptional. He was approachable and so very kind to me and my family. I really never expected such compassion from my surgeon. After a long day of surgery he personally called my family to let them know the operation went well. This alone gave my elder brother peace of mind as he was beside himself with worry for me. It displays to me a great dedication to one's patients to maintain such high standards. My recovery is going so well and it's not even been a week since my right hemicolectomy surgery. I am mobile and everything is in good working order. I could not have been in better hands. Thank you to everyone involved in my health journey and in particular to Mr Bhargava and his surgical team.

Overall it was good except for blood test results which i had to wait for 3 hours each time for 2 blood tests taken at different intervals (i. e in total 6 hours just for the blood tests). Apart from this terrible wait in the waiting room. The experience was ok.

Suggested improvements
Quicker blood tests (i mean take 1.5 hours and not 3 hours each time) Gave an option to discharge the patients rather than the patient waiting for 3 hours just for the blood test results each time.

My mum was admitted with advanced dementia and acute delirium, being safeguarded from my dad. The nurses that physically took care of mum were kind, but the administration is so horrendous appalling diabolical, that no one has a clue what is going on and it verged on abuse of a mentally ill patient. I don't have the time to describe everything that went on. But I hope I never, ever have to rely on your service again.

Suggested improvements
Absolutely, everything to do with your administration. So I guess nothing will change and it's not worth me wasting my time. Listing everything that went wrong
